Sydney will be the second host city in this five-event series – a first-of-its-kind global blockchain hackathon. Across the five events, competing teams will be offered a total of US$1.5 million in prizes and awards, including a Grand Prize of US$500,000, through EOS VC, Block.one’s venture capital arm.
Rob Jesudason said: “At Block.one, we see Australia as a critical market for the growth of blockchain in the region. We’re excited to be bringing the EOS Global Hackathon to Sydney and are looking forward to working with the world-class developer community here.”
Under this year’s theme, decentralize everything, each hackathon features a unique challenge for developers building on EOSIO, Block.one’s open-source blockchain protocol. The Australia challenge will be announced on the day of the event.
Competing teams will spend 30 consecutive hours attempting to “hack” the challenge, with the aim of designing decentralized apps (DAPPs) with real-world utility using the EOSIO code. Teams will be supported on the day by the greatest minds in blockchain technology and armed with survival packs to stay fueled throughout the night.
With contestants from all over the world expected to compete in Sydney, teams will have the opportunity to present and demo their ideas to an expert panel of judges. The top three prize winners will progress and compete in a Grand Finale Pitch Competition event in December.
Last month, winning teams in Hong Kong took home US$144,000 in prizes awarded by EOS VC.
